My Trampoline

When I acquired my property, I noticed there was this trampoline on the property, and decided to keep it, on my way to do some star gazing on it, and it is very comfortable..

The Local Indoor Pest

Out here in the country, we get scorpions in our homes, they get in through drains from outside and through small holes into the house. Here we get use to checking shoes and clothing and chairs. I once saw a large one crawling up a wall, but most are small about a couple inches long. And yes they will sting you when startled.

Fire in the Night

I built a fire in the fire pit last night, just felt like having a beer or two and watching a fire in the night..

The next morning, now I have a mud pit to clean...

The Monsoon comes

After going through most of the summer with very little rain, I got in two days over seven inches which is great since it was the kind of rain that soaked the ground for the trees on my property. In Austin, however, they had some flooding. They have my sympathies ..
Some new mushrooms after the rains..

New berries on the small trees in front of the cabin..

Hello Canada

Woke up this morning to a temp of 58! Glad I put those screen doors up on the cabin and the studio. Feels great outside, a cold front from Canada moved through Texas late yesterday dropping the temp from the 90s. Today it will only be in the 60s.

Inside The Cabin

A look inside the cabin, small like I like it with just enough room to live..
The kitchen and reading area

The video/TV area

Thrift Hopping

Went out yesterday and today taking a drive out in the countryside looking for thrift stores, came upon this one, ShannonAgains, catchy name just a few miles from me off of the main highway. This guy had a sword he needed cleaning up and gave me $30 store credit in return. Then there was this place called the Junk Shop, he had some elk antler but I did not have enough cash on me. At the end of the day found a little of everything, from a small round rug for the cabin to some chairs. Found couple of high back stool chairs for the Studio and two chairs for the cabin. This is what I like about these thrift/junk shops out in the country..

Facebook... Time to Leave it

I have decided to leave Facebook, I am tired of  wading through the junk and ads with the way Facebook is setup. I will still keep my arts page there at https://www.facebook.com/davilleknifemaking

My New Fridge

I found someone on Craigslist that had a small Fridge for sale for $40 that would fit under the work table of my Studio, only thing is I had to drive back to the city of east Austin, about 40 miles from me. So I drive back to the city and yes the idiots were on the road and it was just chaotic energy all the way. I realize just why I left that place and I don't care if I ever go back...

So I get it in my Studio and now I have it loaded with beverages, juice, and sandwich supplies...

New Screen Door

Bought two screen doors today, put one on the main door of the cabin, took me over two hours. Lets see, first I had to cut the side and bottom of the wood of the door with only a reciprocating saw, that was fun. Then I had to drill out holes on the frame and door for the hinges just so I could get the screws in on the door and frame. Still not fitting right, so I cut the door again, so you might say, this door has a unique looking personality to it two hours later. Never a dull day doing it yourself, nothing standard fits out here in the wilderness..

Then on Tuesday, got the other one on my Studio door, ready for the fall weather now..

The Cabin

A glimpse at the front area of the cabin this morning, added the canopy after moving in to the front area to add to the shade for sitting out front around a table, and the fire pit is to the left, nothing like a fire at night, stays quiet here, expecting my neighbor to stop by later today for another conversation..

The Countryside

I was out in my truck today riding along the country road from my house to the main highway and took these photos of what the area is like around me. There is just the natural landscape for miles with a house here and there...

At the Mailbox

I walked down the dirt road today that I live on like I do every day to my mailbox, and took this photo of how quiet the main road is that I live off of. I hope they don't build anything out here anytime soon. I like keeping the entrance to my property private from prying people..

My Little Storage Place

Put a roof on my little shed today, if you can call it a roof, made of wood beams, sheets of metal and plastic sheet weighted down with bricks. That took a lot out of me, think I am done for a while, just have to do something about the doorway now, will see if everything holds this winter...

I decided to just add a "flap" to the doorway to this structure, keeping it simple yet still fuctional and keeping out the rain and elements while allowing easy access. Security is a non issue..

My Idea of a Window

My idea of a window for this building I was working on. I found more wood and some plastic material, I know it looks like a jail, but I am just looking to keep the rain out and with just stuff I find on the property...

My New Floor

I went looking for old lumber and plywood on the property today and from what I was able to find put this oddball floor together in this storage shed. It sits on cinder blocks which I was surprised to find laying around. Some of the wood was just laying outside and some was in another shed, but it is strong enough to walk on...so much for my carpentry skills using whatever I could find on the land. Now if I could just sell this lawnmower I have and that other thing in there is an old doggy door... Next the roof...

My Neighbor

I have been getting to know my neighbor down the road from me. He is a young lad of about 28 and seems to like confiding in me and asking my opinions which I freely offer. He came by the other day and we had a couple of beers together around my fire pit and talked at length. Interesting and smart guy, I think I will continue with our discussions in the future. Maybe there is something I can pass on of some value in conversation, but I like talking with the fellow. He has a beautiful black German shepherrd dog and a beautiful black cat. I took care of then one weekend while he was gone away.

The Guest Room

The Guest bed in my Studio, I think I just may use if for myself sometime even though I have a single bed in the cabin. I also have a dresser at the foot of the bed but I have not used it. I spend most of my time in my Studio anyway...
