New Feed Trough for the Ladies

I had to make a longer feed trough for the ladies, they just fight among each other when close together, see if this fixes that problem. I made it from two by fours that Lowe's had and gave to me as surplus for free, nice..

New Gate

Yes, it has come to that, I have had to put up a gate on the dirt road to my property just to keep idiots from driving down to my cabin. It amazes me the number of people who do it, and I even caught one idiot taking photos down by my cabin. That's the end of that crap. Also have posted signs but added some more, will see if they make a difference.

Mas Huevos

The Ladies are laying everyday now, looks like I need to eat more eggs.. As good as these are, I could do that...

Now I Can Record

Found this professional mic for just $10 at a thrift, and after trying it out on my old vintage reel tape recorder, I can now do voice recordings the old school way. And I have plenty to say...

The Coin

One can never know what one may find just on a walk... I found this coin just before me on top of the ground, it is not just the value of the coin being but a dollar, but the act of finding it.

The Two Knives

While I was at the Wimberley Festival, I was asked by a patron to make him two knives. I like doing custom work sometimes, I can still use my creative side and in a way that the customer wants.

Back to the Wimberley Festival

I was out today to my last festival for the year at the Wimberley Market Days Festival, nice weather and many questions but fewer sales, that's it till the spring..

Special Lady

I have this one hen (Prissy) who lays the most beautiful eggs every day. They are always clean and a nice lite brown. Don't have to wash these. And they are the tastiest, hope she keeps laying.. The other hens have not done much except eat and poop, hope they get it going soon..

This is Prissy, she also digs more than the others in the pen.

Flint and arrowheads

Was down by this gorge after the rains on my property and found all this flint and a couple of arrowheads. Looks like someone from the past was doing some flint knapping and these got left. I am looking at what I might be able to do with some of these if my left hand ever recovers. I think I will go back sometime and look for more..

The two on the right look like arrowheads that were with the flint

Low Pressure

Today it has been raining nonstop here in TX, and apparently this low pressure is going to move right over top of me. In last 24 hours have had 5 inches of rain here, which is great for the plant life and the wild life, it is good I am not in a valley here but on a hill, so no flooding here. Low pressure just kills me and makes every joint hurt, at my age (60), it just gets worse every year. I hate taking any pills, but I have to take the Ibuprofen just to get through the day. Fortunately tomorrow will be a better day, just got to make it through this one. In the photo below, you can see the swirl of the low pressure center.

Eggs From the Ladies

I have started getting some nice eggs from the ladies, nice light brown and smooth. The yokes have a rich deep orange color and I realize nothing tastes better than your own..

Round 2 of the Artic Air Invasion

Well, here is round 2 of this attic air coming down out of Canada, I think I am one of the fortunate ones with a low temp of only about 25 this morning.

Big Dreams

Was out driving around and encountered this Dream Catcher, estimate it to be over 15 feet high..

Something Different

I decided to do something different in making this huge knife from a carbon steel hacksaw. Sometimes when you want good steel, you have to turn to saws and files which are still around. Most of the steel out there today is just crap made in Asia. Tough knife to make with a sore thumb, and I probably should not have done so but I just can't keep my creative side down, Knife is 15 inches long.

The Ladies Come Out

I got the ladies to come out of the hen house today to munch on some mustard greens.. The temp is 51 today but will freeze tonight, first freeze here in central TX. ...And yes I have a small heater installed in the hen house, have to keep the ladies warm..

The Artic is On Its Way

By tomorrow morning the artic air will be back here in central TX, and by Wed morning we should have our first freeze this far south, can imagine how cold it will be in other parts up north..

Found Another Old Tape Player

I went to one of Good Will's auctions and picked up a 1965 Concord model reel to reel tape recorder for $13. After cleaning the heads, I listened to some old 1965 Frank Sinartra.

The Hand

I finally gave up fighting it and trying to heal my injured left hand, saw a specialist today and got a cortisone shot in the joint of my left thumb and this huge wrap around my arm. I tried to let heal a torn ligament in the joint of my thumb and combine that with arthitis in the joint (with it coming in other joints also), and I gave up after two months. My use of my left hand is on hold now for a month..

The Wimberley Festival

Today I spent the day showing my craft at the Wimberley Market Days Festival, the temperature started in the low 40s and took about half the day to warm into the low 60s. I am not use to spending this much time in the cold, well any colder and I would not have been here. There were the usual crowds and curiosity seekers and laughs, and I still sold much of my work.

New Knife Today

Decided to make a new carbon steel knife, has a six inch blade which is about my size for a knife and a deer horn antler handle of course. The blade came from Mexico and it is an old one. The older 30 year old blades have good steel.

Getting Ready For Next Event

This is the latest stone making I have been doing in the last couple weeks. I will be adding these to others I have made for a festival coming up next week..

Adding More

Adding more stone knives to my inventory.. These two are made from large antler horn tines.

Thursday, October 23, 2014

Two More

These two are smaller ones each similar in size but different in shape of the stone.

My Largest Stone Knife

Well, this is the biggest and heaviest stone knife I have made, measuring thirteen inches long. It is also mounted on the biggest piece of elk horn antler I have found. Now this is a knife which would be a good ceremonial piece.

The Ladies

Time for my ladies to come in for the night, they like "perching" high up in the hen house. Here are four of them on the high bar..

More of my Work

Been making some larger stone knives lately, I decided to change some of my approach in design and look to produce something different than what I have been doing in the past, so these came into being. I used flint with elk horn bone. I have a festival coming up weekend after next, time to be creative..
